Mayor Al Suarez was born in San Antonio, Texas, and is a graduate of Brackenridge High School, San Antonio, Texas. He served in the United States Air Force for 21 years as an Air Traffic Controller & Security Police Specialist. He participated in Operation Desert Shield & Desert Storm and was awarded the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal for Outstanding Military Service. He served 23 years with the Bexar County Criminal District & County Courts Adult Probation Department. He holds a Master of Arts degree in Criminal Justice Management & Administration, a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice & Corrections, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology & Behavioral Management, an Associate's degree in Security Administration, and an Associate’s degree in Airway Science. He is an Honor Graduate of the Air Traffic Control Specialist Program and a graduate of the Air Force Security Police Academy. He was elected to the Converse City Council Place 1 in May 2006 and Mayor of Converse in May 2007. He was re-elected to a 10th term as Converse Mayor in November 2025. He is the current Chairman of the Greater Bexar County Council of Cities (a 28-city Mayor organization). He was appointed to the Board of Directors for the Alamo Area Council of Governments (a 13-county organization). He is the former chairman of Northeast Partnership for Economic Development, a former President of the Judson Education Foundation, a former Vice President of San Antonio Orthopedic Foundation, and a former board member for the Canyon Regional Water Authority Board of Trustees. He is a member of the American Legion Post 593, VFW Post 8541, Alamo Honor Flight Guardian, JBSA Randolph Honorary Commander, and St. Monica Catholic Church.
